The Introduction of High Carbon Ferro Silicon

Carbon silicon alloy is a new kind of alloy which can take in place of Ferro Silicon, silicon carbide, carburant and it is used for deoxidation alloying process of converter smelting.

High carbon ferrosilicon: At the end of converter steelmaking, excessive oxygen is dissolved in the molten steel, which precipitates during solidification to form oxide inclusions and bubbles. The generated oxide inclusions remain in the steel, which can reduce the mechanical properties of the steel such as plasticity and impact toughness. High oxygen content in the steel can also produce defects such as bubbles and porosity under the skin, and exacerbate the harmful effect of sulfur, directly affecting the quality of the casting billet and steel products.
 
Before using high carbon ferrosilicon, the main method of deoxidation for steel grades smelted in steel mills is aluminum iron deoxidation. The advantages of aluminum deoxidation are that the aluminum grains are relatively fine and the deoxidation effect is very obvious, but the disadvantages are that the cost of aluminum iron deoxidation is high, and aluminum deoxidation agents are prone to form Al2O3 inclusions, resulting in the occurrence of water plugging or non downstream phenomena. Therefore, using high carbon ferrosilicon deoxidation methods can not only reduce the cost of deoxidation but also solve the problems of water plugging and non downstream.
