What is ferromanganese?

Ferromanganese is an iron alloy with iron and manganese as the main components. Steel work is used as deoxidizer, desulfurizer and alloying agent. In addition to manganese and iron, its components also contain impurities from silicon, carbon, sulfur and manganese ore. According to the different carbon content, it can be divided into high-carbon ferromanganese (containing carbon ≤7.5%-2%), medium-carbon ferromanganese ( Carbon content ≤ 2%-0.5%) and low carbon ferromanganese (carbon content ≤ 0.5%), as well as nitrogen-containing ferromanganese. Manganese is the basic element of steel, and almost all steel and cast iron contain manganese. Manganese has a large affinity for both oxygen and sulfur, which can improve the hot workability of steel. Manganese in ferromanganese can also be used as an alloy, and wear-resistant high manganese steel is widely used in the manufacture of excavators and crushing equipment. Also used for free cutting steel, alloy structural steel, spring steel, bearing steel. Tool steel, non-magnetic steel, stainless steel and heat-resistant steel. The flux in the electrode should be added with medium carbon ferromanganese powder.

Ferromanganese is mainly used in steelmaking as deoxidizer, desulfurizer, and alloy additive. As an alloy additive, it can improve the mechanical properties of steel, increase the strength, ductility, toughness and wear resistance of steel.
