The European steel industry is wary of new threats from Iran

2017-02-22

European iron and steel lobbying company Eurofer said that the EU imports of steel from Iran in 2013-2016 years, an increase of nearly eight times, as another threat to the European steel manufacturers.
Eurofer pointed out that Europe's imports of steel from Iran increased slightly to more than 1 million tons, imports only from India's 1.9 million tons and 5.7 million tons from China. "The threat from Iran is new and will become one of the three major threat markets for European steel mills, namely China, India and Iran," said Karl Tachelet, director of foreign relations and trade at Eurofer.
In order to achieve economic growth, Iran seeks to boost the steel industry with the help of foreign partners. Iran in 2015 with the six countries reached a nuclear agreement in exchange for the lifting of the sanctions they have received. But the Iranian government has said it is considering emulating India's imposition of export tariffs on iron ore, thereby increasing the supply of cheap raw materials for domestic steelmakers. Eurofer said it was equivalent to protectionism, and the industry represented by Eurofer had to import the country's iron ore.
In addition, February 15 is Iran's two-day steel meeting, Iran said it hopes to 2025 years before the annual export of 20 million tons of steel -25 million tons, and the total output from the current estimate of 16 million tons to 55 million Ton. At present, the EU is investigating cases of suspected dumping of hot rolled steel in Serbia, Iran, Brazil, Russia and Ukraine.
