Silicon element has a good affinity with oxygen and easily produces silica. It can achieve the purpose of deoxidation. Common iron alloy products containing silicon element are ferrosilicon, metal silicon, silicon barium, silicon carbon alloy, silicon carbide and other products that contain a lot of silicon and have good deoxidation effect.

In the steelmaking process, silicon is added as a reducing agent and deoxidizer, so steel contains 0.15%~0.30% silicon. If the amount of silicon in steel exceeds 50%~0.60%, silicon is considered an iron alloy element, and silicon can It can effectively improve the elasticity, yield point and tensile strength of steel, so it is widely used as spring steel.

Adding 1.0%~1.2% silicon element to quenched and tempered structural steel can increase the strength by 15%~20%. The combination of silicon element and molybdenum, tungsten, chromium, etc. can improve corrosion resistance and can make heat-resistant steel. Low carbon steel containing 1% to 4% silicon has extremely high magnetic permeability and is used in the electrical industry to make silicon steel sheets. Increasing the amount of silicon will reduce the welding performance of the steel.
